Traffic along Manafwa- Bududa circular roads was this afternoon, Thursday, November 28, 2024 paralyzed after taxi drivers and boda boda riders from both districts closed the road in protest.

The road has been closed at Buwangani Town Council located in Manafwa district neighboring Bududa district where a big wide four feet deep trench was dug in the middle of the road disabling vehicles, motorcycles and pedestrians from crossing.

According to Samuel Mandu, one of the taxi drivers from Bududa, the road is in a terrible condition especially this rainy season.

He adds that the road is full of potholes right from Bubulo [Manafwa town council] to Bududa district.

Sam Wabuko, a boda boda rider from Bududa says that every day he spends over 50,000/= at the garage to repair his bike due to poor roads.

The striking motorists warned that they are not ready to fill the trench until Uganda National Roads Authority repairs the road.

Kosea Kigayi Kimono, the LCV chairperson of Manafwa district who reported to the scene urged UNRA to come and repair the road such that it can be passable.

He says that Manafwa- Bududa circular road is the only route which connects Bududa to Manafwa, and Mbale Districts.

Kimono adds that the road’s blockage is costing people of Bududa and Manafwa in terms of business and other works.

However, Dinah Nakombe, the manager UNRA Mbale region when contacted on phone says they have sent a team on ground to assess the situation before briefing the media.
