Mayuge Police Hunt for Gunmen Who Stole Shs4,500 from a Woman

Police in Mayuge District, Eastern Uganda, are searching for three armed men dressed in military uniform who allegedly broke into a resident’s home at night and stole Shs4,500 along with a mobile phone.

According to the Busoga East police spokesperson, the assailants, carrying an AK47 rifle, reportedly forced their way into the home of 34-year-old Aisha Maloba in Kasuku village, Mayuge Town Council, on Friday night. They allegedly ordered her to lie down before taking the money and a button mobile phone.

Before stealing from her, the attackers are said to have questioned Ms. Maloba about her husband’s whereabouts and asked if she knew an individual named Sowed Magumba. When she denied any knowledge of the person they were asking about, they allegedly searched her handbag, found the cash and phone, and then fled the scene.

The victim later reported the incident to the police, who have since launched an investigation and a manhunt for the suspects.

Robberies involving gunmen dressed in military uniforms are frequently reported in Uganda. The latest annual crime report indicated that a total of 8,163 robbery cases were recorded nationwide in 2024, reflecting a 5 percent increase from the 7,772 cases reported in 2023
