Kamuli Chief Magistrates Court, presided over by Aisha Nabukeera has today, Wednesday, 27th November, 2024 charged a 32 year old man with Aggravated robbery and committed him to high Court.
Sowedi Egumbye, a resident of Bugaga B, Nawantumbi Ward, Nawanyago Town Council in Kamuli District is accused of robbing Shilikya Paul of Shs 5M and property worthy Shs9m.The accused was arrested in an intelligence led operation on the 26th/11/2024 at around 04:00am from his residence.
In the month of March this year, Sowedi and others at large robbed Paul after issuing him counterfeit dollars. The victim was lured by the suspects from Kireka. They assured him of US dollars that he would obtain after giving them some amount of Ugandan currency. He travelled to meet them at Nawanyago where he was robbed of cash and a bag which contained phones.According to ASP Michael Kasadha, the Busoga north spokesperson, it has been common practice for the group to lure and fleece victims especially from Kampala and other areas. Where they fail to succeed, they use tools and sticks to obtain the target.
On the 19th/8/2023, the same group attacked and maliciously damaged Nawanyago police cells in an attempt to rescue a colleague who was in custody over counterfeit money distribution.Further investigations are ongoing to have the file forwarded to the DPP for further legal procedure.A serious man hunt is on for the suspects at large to have them apprehended.
