JUST IN: Brigade Commander Col. David Byaruhanga Passes On

Colonel David Byaruhanga, a senior officer in the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), has passed away from injuries sustained on the battlefield in eastern DR Congo.

The 4th Infantry Division’s Public Information Officer, Captain David Kamya, confirmed his death, citing information from the Division Commander, Major General Felix Busizoori.

Byaruhanga, who was in charge of the 409 Brigade in Bondo, Arua District, had been receiving treatment at Nakasero Hospital, where he eventually succumbed to his injuries. Reports indicate that he suffered bullet wounds while on frontline duty in DR Congo.

His death marks a significant loss for the 4th Infantry Division and the entire UPDF fraternity. He was a key figure in enforcing Presidential Executive Order No. 3, aimed at curbing the illegal charcoal trade in the Acholi sub-region. He also played a vital role in pacifying Karamoja during operations against the Karacuna warriors.

The UPDF has recognized his service and sacrifice, honoring him as a hero.
