A police officer in Bwongyera Sub County, Ntungamo District, was detained by locals after being accused of stealing a mobile phone.
A video circulating on social media shows a group of residents confronting the officer, who is in full police uniform. The community members are seen questioning him angrily, with some resorting to physical violence.
Amid the growing tension, a man, believed to be another police officer but not in uniform, or a local leader, intervened. He handcuffs the accused officer and expresses disbelief that someone meant to uphold the law would be involved in such a crime.
The officer is then placed on a boda boda and taken away, likely to be handed over to the local police station for further investigation. This action saved him from further harm at the hands of the crowd.
The incident has raised concerns about trust between the community and law enforcement, particularly when officers are involved in criminal activity.
