Gen. Sejusa Condemns Viral ‘Sniper Pose’ by NUP Supporter in Luwero

Former intelligence chief Gen. David Sejusa has criticised a viral photo of a National Unity Platform (NUP) supporter in Luwero who posed like a sniper during Bobi Wine’s campaign rally, using a gun-shaped object made from yam fibres. The image has stirred wide debate on social media.

Gen. Sejusa dismissed the act as reckless, warning that any behaviour resembling armed action, even with improvised objects, can easily be misunderstood.

“This is absolutely irresponsible,” he said. “Mimicking armed soldiers aiming guns, whether using toys, bamboo or banana fibres, is very dangerous. Politics is serious business. Don’t turn it into a game.”

The retired general questioned why NUP Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya chose to share the image, noting that the party frequently accuses security forces of targeting and arresting its supporters.

“Politics is serious business, in many places a matter of life and death. Why treat it like a comedy?” Sejusa asked. “I see your group rounded up by police, yet it seems amusing to you. You keep doing things that add no value.”

His remarks followed Rubongoya’s social media post highlighting the supporter’s pose, which quickly drew mixed reactions.

The warning comes at a sensitive point in the campaign period. Recent days have seen several confrontations between security forces and NUP supporters, including arrests, disrupted rallies and clashes along campaign routes. While the party accuses security agencies of excessive force, the police maintain that some supporters have acted in ways that provoke confrontation.

Gen. Sejusa urged young people to avoid behaviours that could heighten tensions or be misinterpreted during an already heated political atmosphere.
