Man Beheads Wife Amidst Family Dispute

A chilling act of domestic violence has left the community of Bukitongo Village in Butemulani Parish, Bumwoni Subcounty, reeling in shock. In a horrifying incident that unfolded last night, Rogers Kuremu, a local resident, allegedly beheaded his wife, Nerima Sharon, following a heated domestic dispute. The gruesome act has once again highlighted the alarming prevalence of domestic violence in Namisindwa District.

According to local authorities, the tragedy occurred at around 9 p.m. on Tuesday evening. The couple had just finished supper when an argument erupted. Witnesses reported that Kuremu, in a fit of rage, grabbed a hoe and used it to brutally decapitate his wife. The couple had a history of marital strife, with Nerima having left Kuremu a year ago due to ongoing conflicts. She had only recently returned to the family home, a decision that tragically cost her life.

Khaukha Michael, the LC3 Chairman of Bumwoni Subcounty, confirmed the incident, stating that the couple had been embroiled in frequent disputes. “The late Nerima had left her husband a year ago, but when she returned, Kuremu accused her of being involved with another man. This accusation sparked the violent altercation that led to her death,” Michael explained. After committing the heinous act, Kuremu fled the scene, and his current whereabouts remain unknown. Police have launched a manhunt to apprehend him.

The body of Nerima Sharon, daughter of the late Muzei Chemuku, a well-known tailor from the Umukiabi clan, has been taken to Mbale Mortuary for a postmortem examination. The couple leaves behind five children, who are now orphaned and in desperate need of support.

This incident is not an isolated case in Namisindwa District, where domestic violence remains a pervasive issue. Local police records indicate that at least three cases of domestic violence are reported every week. Last year, a similarly gruesome incident occurred when a young man beheaded his wife and carried her head to the home of a man he suspected of having an affair with her.

Community leaders and authorities are calling for urgent action to address the root causes of domestic violence in the region. “We need to educate our communities on conflict resolution and provide support systems for families in crisis,” said Chairman Khaukha Michael. “These senseless acts of violence must end.”

As the investigation continues, the community mourns the loss of Nerima Sharon and grapples with the devastating impact of domestic violence. Her tragic death serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for societal change to protect vulnerable individuals and families.

Police urge anyone with information on Rogers Kuremu’s whereabouts to come forward. Meanwhile, efforts are underway to provide support for the couple’s orphaned children.
