Police in Kampala Metropolitan East and North are investigating two unsettling occurrences that have sparked concern among residents: the disappearance of a 12-year-old girl and the recovery of a decomposed body in Kyampisi Subcounty. Authorities have appealed for calm as investigations progress.

The missing child, identified as Aneza Merisa, was reported to Wandegeya Police Station on November 6, 2025, by her mother, Kamuganga Sarah. Officers say circumstances surrounding her disappearance remain unclear, and a search operation is underway to locate her.

In a separate development, villagers in Namulaba, Kyampisi Subcounty, discovered a badly decomposed body on November 10, 2025, lying in Musaale Swamp. The body was dressed in a navy-blue school skirt bearing the name “Nanyonga VII,” leading police to believe the victim may have been a schoolgirl. Efforts to identify which school uses that uniform are ongoing.

Due to the advanced state of decomposition, the remains were buried in a public cemetery by Kayunga mortuary staff. When news of the discovery reached the parents of the missing girl, they feared the body could be their daughter, although investigators stressed that no link has been established.

Police have since secured a court order to exhume the remains for forensic examination. DNA analysis will be carried out to confirm or rule out any connection between the unidentified body and Aneza Merisa, offering clarity to the family and community.

According to ASP Luke Owoyesigire, the Deputy PRO for Kampala Metropolitan Police, the two incidents are currently being treated as separate investigations. He also noted that police are engaging nearby schools and local leaders to help identify the deceased girl.

Residents in Kyampisi and surrounding areas have expressed deep unease following the discovery, raising broader concerns about child safety in the region. Authorities have reassured the public that both cases are receiving urgent attention.

Police are urging parents and guardians to remain vigilant, immediately report missing children, and share any information that may assist detectives. Community cooperation, they emphasize, will play a crucial role in resolving the cases.

Forensic experts will carry out exhumation and DNA testing in accordance with legal and scientific procedures. Investigators will release further updates as soon as new details emerge.
