Lwengo District, Uganda – October 3, 2025: A Tausi bus burst into flames this morning while on its way from Masaka to Mbarara, sparking panic among travelers but leaving all passengers unharmed.
According to SP Kasirye Twaha, the Public Relations Officer for Greater Masaka Police, smoke was first detected near the rear tyres on the driver’s side as the vehicle approached Manyogoga, shortly before Prisons.
The driver proceeded to Kyazanga Town, where he quickly pulled off the road to investigate. By then, the fire had already spread, forcing him to immediately order all passengers to evacuate.
Passengers attempted to put out the flames with a fire extinguisher, but the blaze intensified too quickly. Fortunately, everyone managed to escape without injuries.
Police and traffic officers from Lwengo District and Kyazanga Police Station, led by the District Traffic Officer, rushed to the scene to document the incident. By the time they arrived, the bus was engulfed in flames, and traffic had to be diverted in both directions for safety.
Authorities confirmed that investigations are underway to establish the exact cause of the fire.
