Grief engulfed Simuli village in Butula constituency on Wednesday, September 24, after a Form Three student from Simuli Secondary School died in a road accident.The student, identified as Musomi, was hit by a speeding vehicle near Mushitonye while returning to school. He had earlier been sent home over school-related issues and was on his way back when the accident occurred.
According to witnesses, the vehicle struck him, causing severe injuries that killed him instantly.
His mother told reporters that her son’s last words before leaving home were: “Mum, let me rush back to school.” She said she never imagined those would be their final words together.Residents and fellow students later staged protests, blaming the accident on reckless driving. Authorities were forced to intervene to calm the situation.
School officials described Musomi as disciplined and hardworking. Police confirmed that the vehicle involved was impounded and the driver taken into custody as investigations continue.
The incident has left the community in mourning and raised concerns about road safety around schools in the area.
