Five teachers arrested for leaking and selling PLE papers

Five teachers in Kiira Division have been arrested over the unauthorized possession and distribution of what are alleged to be Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) materials.

The individuals detained include Mugaga Ramathan Male, a 24-year-old invigilator stationed at Kirinya C/U Primary School in Kampala. The others include Tumuhimbise Ronald, a 40-year-old teacher from Kabeko village in Sembabule District; Otai Nelson, a 31-year-old teacher from Nabweru Zone in Nansana Municipality, Wakiso District; and Katamba Richard, 40, and Kimanje Tom, 30, both teachers residing in Kimanya, Masaka City.

According to police reports, the suspects are accused of sharing electronic copies of suspected UNEB PLE exam papers covering subjects like Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and English on social media platforms, including WhatsApp and Telegram. Additionally, it is alleged that they provided answers to students at Kisoso Primary School in Masaka City ahead of the exams.

One suspect reportedly forwarded the materials to the school’s director, who remains at large. Authorities are currently seeking the director as they continue their investigation into this incident.

The accused teachers are set to appear in Kiira Magistrate’s Court today, November 12, to face charges related to the unauthorized possession and distribution of examination materials.
