Mukono, Uganda – A tragic road accident in Mukono District has left one person dead and another battling for his life after a motorcycle collided with a vehicle on Friday evening.
Eyewitnesses say the crash occurred along the busy Kampala–Jinja highway, a hotspot for frequent accidents due to reckless driving and congestion. The deceased, whose identity has not yet been released by authorities, died instantly at the scene, while the rider sustained severe injuries.
According to preliminary reports, the motorcycle was attempting to overtake a vehicle when it was struck by another car coming from the opposite direction. The force of the impact threw both the rider and passenger onto the tarmac.
Mukono police traffic officers responded swiftly, transporting the injured victim to Mukono General Hospital for emergency treatment and transferring the body of the deceased to the hospital mortuary.
Police spokespersons have since attributed the accident to dangerous overtaking and over-speeding, urging motorists to exercise caution, especially on major highways.
The incident has reignited concerns about the growing number of road crashes in Mukono District, with community leaders calling for increased traffic enforcement and stricter penalties for reckless driving.
