President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed Professor Moses Muhwezi as the new principal of Makerere University Business School (MUBS) in Nakawa, Kampala.
According to the statement released by MUBS on the official X handle on November 7, 2024, Professor Muhwezi replaces Prof. Waswa Balunywa, who retired from the education facility in 2023 after a 28-year period.
“Prof. Muhwezi’s appointment is on a local contract basis and is effective immediately, and he is set to serve a five-year term, beginning on the date of his assumption of duty,“ the statement read in part.
The statement revealed that Prof. Muhwezi will take on significant responsibilities to drive MUBS forward, focusing on enhancing its academic excellence and expanding its role as a key institution for business and management education in Uganda and the region.
Prof. Muhwezi is the second principal in the 28-year history of Makerere University Business School.
He holds a PhD in Public Procurement from the University of Twente in the Netherlands; a Master of Philosophy in Public Procurement from Maastricht School of Management in the Netherlands; an MBA in Accounting and Finance from Makerere University; and a degree in BCOM (Accounting) from Makerere University, among other qualifications.
Prof. Muhwezi is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (MCIPS), the Institute of Public Procurement Professionals in Uganda (IPPU), the Dutch Procurement Association, the Industrial Marketing and Purchasing Group (IMP), the Technical Committee of Procurement Experts COMESA States, and a former Vice Chairperson of Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply, Uganda Chapter.
This decision, executed under Article 172(1) of the 1995 Constitution of the Republic of Uganda as amended, was formalized through Advice No. ESC 001/2024.
