KAMPALA — A cloud of shock and sorrow hangs over the Makerere University Business School (MUBS) community following the sudden and mysterious death of one of its students shortly after a visit from his girlfriend.

The deceased, identified as Brian K., a second-year student pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Procurement and Logistics, was found lifeless in his apartment in Nakawa on Sunday morning, just hours after spending the night with his girlfriend, whose identity is being withheld by police for investigation purposes.

According to preliminary reports, neighbors became suspicious when Brian failed to leave his room the entire morning and did not respond to calls. Concerned friends forced their way into his apartment and discovered his body lying on the bed, unresponsive. Emergency responders confirmed he had already passed away.

Eyewitnesses say the girlfriend had been seen leaving the premises early that morning in a visibly distressed state. Authorities from Jinja Road Police Station were immediately notified and have since launched a full-scale investigation.

Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, confirmed the incident and stated that a postmortem will determine the exact cause of death. However, foul play has not been ruled out.

“We have gathered preliminary evidence and taken statements from neighbors and friends. The girlfriend is a key person of interest and will be assisting us with our inquiries,” Owoyesigyire said.

The apartment has been sealed off as a potential crime scene, and police forensic teams have collected samples, including food remnants, drink containers, and digital devices for analysis.

Students and staff at MUBS are grappling with the loss, describing Brian as a bright, calm, and focused individual. His classmates say he had no known health complications and had appeared well the day before.

The MUBS Guild leadership issued a statement urging students to remain calm and allow investigations to take their course, while also calling for increased awareness about mental health, relationship safety, and personal well-being.

As the family prepares for burial arrangements, tributes have poured in on social media, with many demanding justice and transparency in the ongoing investigation.

Police have promised to update the public once the postmortem and full findings are complete.
