Dr. Sudir Ruparelia, the Honorary Counsel of Nepal in Uganda and the head of the Ruparelia Group, has initiated a large-scale blood donation campaign. Collaborating with the Non-Resident Nepali Association and Uganda’s Blood Bank, Dr. Ruparelia’s goal is to replenish the country’s blood reserves and save numerous lives.

The blood donation event is set for Sunday, April 28, 2024, at the Kampala Parents School, running from 8 am to 6 pm. Dr. Ruparelia underscored the urgent need for blood donations, especially for accident victims who often face fatal consequences due to blood shortages.

Dr. Sudir Ruparelia invites everyone to join this noble endeavor, stating, “Our objective is to gather thousands of liters of blood to fulfill the immediate need and save lives throughout Uganda.”

Before donating, individuals will be subjected to a comprehensive screening process to ensure the safety and quality of the donated blood. Potential donors will need to complete a confidential medical history form, which includes questions about behaviors that could increase the risk of blood-borne infections.

While the campaign encourages broad participation, there are specific eligibility criteria for blood donors. Individuals who have participated in certain activities in the past three months, such as injecting drugs, having multiple sexual partners, or trading sex for money or drugs, may be deemed unfit to donate blood. Furthermore, those with certain medical conditions or recent infections are advised not to donate.

Dr. Sudir Ruparelia’s initiative has received extensive support, with numerous organizations and individuals pledging their commitment to the cause. With the community’s cooperation, the blood donation campaign aims to mitigate the chronic blood shortage and prevent unnecessary deaths.

As Uganda confronts the issues caused by inadequate blood supplies, Dr. Ruparelia’s proactive measures provide a beacon of hope for a healthier and safer future for all its residents.
