8 confirmed Dead, 20 injured after Jaguar passenger Bus overturned along Masaka-Kampala Highway
Eight (8) people have been confirmed dead and twenty others injured following a fatal road crash that occurred today morning at Kabaale-Bugonzi along Masaka-Kampala Highway when a passenger Jaguar bus collided head on with a Lorry.
Police confirmed that the crash involved motor vehicles UBP 964T Isuzu Bus belonging to Jaguar bus company and a Lorry UAV 988N Isuzu Elf.
According to the Police traffic directorate, the crash happened at approximately 3:30am when the driver of the Jaguar bus travelling from Kampala to Kigali attempted to overtake an unidentified vehicle by drifting into the opposite lane, colliding with the oncoming Isuzu Elfu.
“The bus rolled multiple times, claiming the lives of 8 passengers and injuring 20 others” a statement from SP Michael Kananura -Director traffic and Road safety says.
According to SP Kananura, prompt response from territorial police ensured victims received medical attention at Masaka Referral Hospital, while the deceased were conveyed to the hospital’s mortuary.
He noted that both vehicles have been towed to Lukaya Police Station for further investigation.
