14-year-old P7 candidate gives birth on eve of PLE

A 14-year-old girl, scheduled to sit for her final Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) starting today, November 6, has given birth. The girl is a pupil at Butenga Church of Uganda Primary School in Bukomansimbi district.

According to her teachers, they were unaware of her pregnancy until November 5, when she developed complications at school.

Goretti Nabawanuka, the midwife at Butenga Health Centre IV who attended to the girl, said she delivered normally, and both the girl and baby are in good health.

Nabawanuka stated that the girl would be able to sit for her first exam on November 6.

The man alleged to have impregnated the underage girl, reportedly a relative, is currently on the run.
